You should set a goal weight before you begin your

you are 200 pounds and want to lose 20 pounds within 2 months,
this can be accomplished. There are 4 weeks to a month so if
you lose 2-3 pounds per week you should reach your goal. It is
best to set month-to-month goals. Take a picture at the
beginning of the month and again after. Measure yourself each
at least twice a week to see your steady progression. Weigh
yourself in the morning because this is when you are at your
lightest weight.
If you must, keep a daily log of what foods you are eating
and your progression during the month. By writing down what you
eat, how much of it you eat, how many calories and so forth,
you will gain a better understanding of what you should include

You should stay as disciplined as possible. At the end of
